We are here to help when the inevitable time comes to say goodbye to your beloved pet. We offer peaceful euthanasia from the comfort of your home.
What to expect:
To allow this procedure to be as smooth and stress-free as possible, we ask that your cat is in a comfy place where they feel safe. Once you and your cat are ready we will administer a sedation to allow them the relax even further. Usually this is a pain and fear free injection and is very quick. Once the sedation takes effect (sometimes 10-20 minutes), we will place a catheter into one of their veins, please note, sedation can lower the blood pressure and it may be necessary to change the vein we will use.
We then give the final injection; this is an overdose of an anaesthetic - this usually stops the heart within a minute or two of being given, the whole procedure is calm and pain free, allowing a peaceful ending to their life.
In collapsed cats we may opt to inject the barbiturate directly into the kidney once they are sedated as their veins can be very fragile and tricky to cannulate. This is painless for them.
Your cat will not close their eyes after death and It is possible to see what looks like a small breath or two after the heart has stopped, this is just muscles relaxing and gases escaping from the body, there may also be some release from the bladder or bowels.
As the euthanasia is completed at home, it is natural for all of your family to want to be present including children and other pets. If you do decide to have children present, we ask that they are fully prepared before we arrive to ensure this is not a scary experience for them.
